Description

The Cosmos Sonata Carmin is an annual plant native to Mexico. Throughout the summer, it has a continuous flowering of large, single, and airy flowers measuring 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3in) in diameter. This Cosmos, the earliest and shortest (60cm (24in) in height at maturity) to allow for cultivation in flower beds and large containers, has carmine flowers with a yellow center that bring lightness and poetry. Its deciduous leaves, measuring 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in), are very airy and cut with a medium green colour.

The Cosmos thrives in the sun and is resistant to light frost. It is used in gardens for flower beds, borders, and even containers. It is also suitable for cut flowers.

Note: Please note that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

The Cosmos Sonata carmin loves the sun and is easy to grow. Place it in a moderately fertile, neutral soil that is moist but well-drained. Plant it during spring (May to June) for flowering from June to October. To prolong flowering, remove faded flowers. Water regularly and mulch to protect from drying out. The Cosmos bipinnatus may be susceptible to botrytis disease (gray mold) as well as slugs and aphids.
