All our Corn Cockle seeds – to bring the charm of wildflowers to your garden. Agrostemma githago, or Corn Cockle, is a charming annual that was once common in corn fields and is now sown in gardens for its delicate flowering. The wild Corn Cockle with pink flowers also comes in white forms, like Agrostemma githago 'Ocean Pearl', or fuchsia pink 'Milas'. Agrostemma githago 'Milas Lilac Queen' offers lavender petals veined with purple.
The flowers of Corn Cockle rise above fine, downy foliage, forming light clusters from May to July. Sown directly in place, they sometimes naturalise if the soil suits them. They prefer well-drained, even stony soils, and thrive in very sunny exposures. Sow from March to May, or in September for earlier flowering. Water lightly after sowing, then space out watering: the plant tolerates drought well.
Undemanding and rarely affected by diseases, Corn Cockle easily finds its place in wild gardens, flowering meadows, or informal borders.
