Alangium are bushes or small deciduous trees often overlooked and rarely used in our gardens. From the family of dogwoods, they have many advantages: rapid growth, abundant and varied foliage, often exotic in appearance, and a fragrant but discreet flowering in the form of small white lilies. The genus Alangium has 17 species originating from Africa, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. The Alangiums best adapted to our temperate climate are the Alangium platanifolium, with plane tree-like leaves, and the Alangium chinense, an extraordinary traveller distributed from East Africa to Japan, from the Himalayas to the Philippines, and throughout central Asia. Discover these small trees with exotic appearances: they are neglected by parasites and diseases, and their cultivation is easy in the sun in ordinary but well-drained and rather fresh soil.
