Our range of winter heathers. Within the group of heathers, it is mainly the Erica carnea and Erica x darleyensis species that are known for their winter flowering. Well adapted to temperate climates, these evergreen groundcovers flower from December to March, depending on the variety.
Excellent Erica x darleyensis 'Kramer's Rote' captivates with its abundant dark pink flowering and rapid growth. 'White Perfection', with a compact habit, flowers white on light green foliage that takes on a bronze hue in winter. There are also varieties with golden foliage like 'Golden Perfect', bright even outside the flowering period. Among the earliest is Erica carnea 'Winterfreude', a variety that forms a carpet of magenta pink flowers as early as December. Erica carnea 'Schneekuppe' is a particularly compact selection that flowers white from January to March.
Winter heathers thrive in acidic to neutral, light, well-drained soils, some erica carnea can even tolerate slightly calcareous soils. They enjoy full sun or partial shade. Light pruning after flowering helps to keep them dense.
