Evergreen grasses will provide permanent fullness and interest to your garden, even in winter. Unlike their deciduous counterparts (Miscanthus, Calamagrostis, Pennisetum, Hakonechloa, Molinie...), evergreen grasses do not require pruning, but rather combing! At the end of winter, use a rake to gently comb the stems to remove as many dead leaves as possible; take care not to pull too hard as sometimes old stumps can be uprooted.

In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
