Hybrid between the genus Cupressus and the genus Chamaecyparis, Cupressocyparis leylandii, better known as Leyland cypress or simply 'Leyland', is a large, majestic, undemanding conifer with rapid growth (up to 9m (29ft) in 10 years). This latter characteristic makes it very often used for evergreen hedges. Cupressocyparis 'Castlewellan Gold' is an interesting variety for its foliage which is adorned with beautiful golden nuances depending on the season.

Undemanding in terms of soil, "leylands" adapt to most climates, even by the seaside, but they fear drought. They are used in a large hedge, or mixed with other evergreens, but they can also be planted as a solitary tree, elegant and majestic. In a hedge, their rapid growth and significant development require regular pruning.

You'll love them!
