Bougainvillea is a climbing plant with woody stems that cling firmly thanks to many small thorny branches.

It's not the flowers, tiny and white, that are decorative but rather the bracts that surround them. Located at the end of the branches and grouped in 10 or 20, these stunning bracts appear in bright and warm colours, pink, red, purple, orange, yellow, white or purple from late spring to early autumn.

Sensitive to cold, bougainvillea can only be grown in open ground in the Mediterranean area. This climber can be easily grown in a pot if you overwinter it in a bright and not too hot room.

Bougainvilleas grow in the sun in any well-drained soil, even poor and rocky soil.
