Annual Sage

The Annual Salvias are plants that offer a colourful flowering during long months. Nine hundred species of salvias come in perennial, annual or biennial varieties. The annual varieties are bushy, very floriferous and come in various colours. The Salvia farinacea (30 to 60 cm (12 to 24in) tall), with its compact, erect habit, has elongated leaves and flowers grouped in upright spikes, either white or dark blue. The Salvia splendens (70 cm (28in) tall) with its ramified habit has dark green, ovate leaves and often bright red flowers in loose, upright spikes. Pair the Salvias with other annuals in pots, beds or containers, such as Annual Lobelias or Petunias.
