Variegated spurges are decorative even outside the flowering season. Their foliage, margined with cream, silver, pale yellow or white, brightens up borders, edging, rock gardens, light woodland or damp soils depending on the variety.
Particularly architectural in dry gardens, Euphorbia characias ‘Tasmanian Tiger’ forms a handsome evergreen, blue-green and cream clump, great paired with grey or purple foliage. The variety 'Silver Swan' shows a more silvery variegation and a compact habit that suits the front of a border well. ‘Glacier Blue’ stands out with its fresh, blue-green and cream tones, to pair with lavenders, cistus or grasses. More colourful, Euphorbia x martinii ‘Ascot Rainbow’ blends blue-green, cream-yellow and pinkish young shoots.
