Our range of candelabra primroses brings together perennials for moist to wet soils, recognisable by their graphic flower stems bearing flowers in tiered whorls. Primula japonica ‘Miller’s Crimson’ is among the best known: its carmine pink crowns are easily placed at the edge of a pond, along a stream, or in a partially shaded border. The white form, Primula japonica ‘Alba’, is adorned with white flowers with a yellow eye. Primula bulleyana bears tubular orange bells, while Primula beesiana offers a purplish-pink flowering with a golden heart and a wilder appearance. Primula pulverulenta is recognisable by its slightly pruinose stems and its well-contrasted purplish-red clusters.

These primroses appreciate a temperate climate, a humus-rich soil that does not dry out in summer, gentle sun or partial shade; summer drought is the main point of vigilance. Plant them in spring or early autumn in soil enriched with compost, water regularly, and mulch to retain moisture.
