The perennial Diascias belong to the family of Scrophulariaceae and originate from South Africa. They are not very hardy, generally not below -8°C (17.6°F), and appreciate heat. However, be careful not to plant them in overly hot conditions. They dislike humidity and only thrive in well-drained soil. These perennials have a relatively short lifespan, no more than three years, but they root very well. The small flowers, tubular at the base and ending in two lobed lips, in pink, orange, mauve or white bloom from June to October. Depending on the species, diascias can be used in flower beds, pots, rock gardens or as ground cover.
