The Rhamnus or Buckthorns are bushes or small bushy trees of the Rhamnaceae family, native to temperate and subtropical regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Their foliage can be evergreen, like the Alaternus Buckthorn (Rhamnus alaternus), beautifully variegated in its 'Argenteovariegatus' form, or deciduous, for example in the Alder Buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula) and the Purge Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica). Their height varies from 1m (3ft) to 10m (33ft). Buckthorns come in around 100 species, many of which are excellent for hedges or massifs. These robust and carefree plants are the origin of varieties such as the Rhamnus frangula Fine LineĀ®.

Choose which species is right for you based on their climate preferences. All species thrive in ordinary, even limestone soil, and are perfectly self-sufficient once established. We offer a selection of original and decorative varieties for all gardens.

You'll adore them!
