All Our Salpiglossis Seeds. Similar to Petunias and Surfinia, Salpiglossis are little-known, but highly ornamental annuals, grown for their trumpet-shaped flowers in rich hues. In flower beds or pots, Salpiglossis blooms from June to September.
Salpiglossis 'Black Trumpets' offers flowers of a deep purple, almost black, marked with golden veins. Salpiglossis sinuata 'Kew Blue' has violet-blue corollas with a bright yellow centre. Salpiglossis sinuata 'Royale F1 Mix' offers a mix of flamboyant shades, from red to yellow through orange or purple, with more regular and vigorous flowering.
Salpiglossis measure about 40 to 60 cm in height. They thrive in light, humus-bearing, well-drained soil. Sow between March and April under cover, or in May directly in the ground after frost. Moderate but regular watering will promote flowering. Relatively sensitive to excess water and wind, Salpiglossis are better suited to sheltered locations.
