All Our Chinese Wisterias. These vigorous climbing plants are led by the renowned Wisteria sinensis, famous for its wonderful clusters of fragrant mauve flowers in spring. They are irreplaceable for dressing up a pergola, facade, or arbour. The most well-known, Wisteria sinensis ‘Prolific’, offers a spectacular blue-violet flowering in April-May. It forms long, very fragrant, pendulous clusters, measuring up to 30 cm. Chinese Wisteria ‘Alba’ is a rare white-flowered form, with an equally strong fragrance, while 'Caroline' stands out for its early flowering, slightly perpetual in summer, and its particularly fragrant clusters of blue-mauve flowers.

Chinese Wisterias or Wisteria sinensis flower abundantly before the leaves appear. They reach 8 to 10 m in height, sometimes more, and require a sturdy support. Their stems twine counter-clockwise, while those of Japanese Wisterias twine clockwise.

These climbers prefer full sun, deep, fertile, well-drained soil that is not too chalky. Chinese Wisteria may take a few years to flower after planting.
