Chrysogonum virginianum or Golden Knee, the only cultivated species of the Chrysogonum genus, is a small perennial creeping and rhizomatous plant appreciated for its endless flowering in small 5-petaled golden stars. They bloom from May until autumn, on a carpet of deciduous and pubescent leaves with a slightly greyish-green colour. This plant, native to the rich undergrowth of the eastern United States, makes an excellent ground cover that thrives in moist soil and light shade. It will find its place in moist and shaded rock gardens, along pathways, adorning the base of roses or the front of perennial borders. Chrysogonum is particularly suitable at the edge of water features, in moist soil and sunny locations.
