The Anemones are beautiful bulbous perennials that are very hardy, like the wood anemone or woodland anemone that colonize clear undergrowth in nature (Anemone nemorosa). The most well-known varieties in spring flowering are Anemone blanda, Greek anemone and Anemone coronaria or Caen anemone, also used by florists. The colours range from white to red, including all shades of pink and beautiful blues like the anemone blanda 'Blue Shades'. Anemones like well-drained, moist, fertile soil in sunny or partially shaded locations. Adding compost during bulb planting will be beneficial. Anemones are perfect for borders or covering surfaces, even in wooded areas.

- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
