With their deep orange, mandarin or apricot flower heads, orange coneflowers bring a very warm colour to summer borders. These hardy perennials flower for a long time, attract pollinating insects and can also be grown at the edge of a border or in a large pot. They also make excellent cut flowers.

Orange-flowered coneflowers are hard to miss in the garden. 'SunSeekers 'Orange' forms a compact, floriferous clump and bears bright orange flowers on sturdy stems. The variety 'Irresistible' offers pompom-like orange flowers touched with beige, as decorative in a border as in a cut flower arrangement. Short and branching 'Orange Skipper' is suitable for small spaces and pots. Taller, 'Tiki Torch' bears large pumpkin-orange flowers around a reddish-brown centre that hold up well in a border.

Orange coneflowers pair naturally with short ornamental grasses, sneezeweeds and rudbeckias. These plants offer a beautiful palette of colours, shapes and habits, allowing them to be paired with many summer-flowering perennials. To find out more, consult our guide “How to plant echinaceas”.
