Callicarpa or the beautyberry is hardy. Easy to grow, Callicarpa thrives in a sunny or partially shaded position in ordinary soil. Its summer flowering is discreet, but it is in autumn that abundant clusters of decorative berries appear on golden foliage. These little shimmering pearls are initially white and turn lilac pink from October onwards until December. Associating Callicarpa with a Hamamelis or snowberries will give even more brilliance to the flowerbed in winter.
