The Verbascums, biennial or perennial, have in common a holy horror of heavy, wet, and poorly drained soils. Also known as mulleins, verbascums are equipped with large spike-like inflorescences, more or less ramified, and are more generally known as "great mulleins". This nickname refers to these large biennial species with yellow or white flowers, growing in large rosettes of leaves covered with a tomentose down and which appreciate the sun and poor soils. New hybrids, derived from lesser-known species, have recently arrived, offering less common flower colors such as pink, apricot, and even violet.
