Sow Sweet William, also known as Dianthus barbatus, is not particularly difficult and allows you to create charming, cost-effective summer flower beds that are both colourful and fragrant. Dianthus barbatus is a perennial plant that is most often grown as a hardy biennial. Dianthus seeds can be sown using two methods: directly in the ground, scattered, in late spring or summer for flowering the following year, or in pots and trays in February-March under cover for transplanting outdoors after the last frost. Sow the seeds without covering them, as they need light to germinate, in a substrate mixed with compost and river sand or vermiculite. Dainthus is an easy plant that requires minimal maintenance once established. Like bellflowers and columbines, these unpretentious plants have a place in every garden. Choose a location where you can fully enjoy the plant's sweet fragrance. In flower beds, plant Dainthus en masse to create beautiful splashes of colour. They can also be grown in pots on the patio or balcony, ensuring proper drainage and occasional fertiliser. Discover our selection of Dianthus barbatus seeds, as well as all our carnation seeds.
