The hellebores, in Latin Helleborus, from the family Renonculacées, are perennials valued for their winter flowering. Among the botanical species, the Helleborus niger, the Christmas Rose, with white flowers, is the most well-known. The Helleborus foetidus, or Stinking Hellebore, native to Western and Central Europe, offers greenish flowers on beautiful evergreen foliage. The Helleborus argutifolius, native to Corsica, displays large yellow-green flowers in late winter. For those who prefer darker shades, the Helleborus purpurascens, from Eastern Europe, produces flowers tinted with purple. The Helleborus thibetanus, a rare species native to China, is sought after by collectors. Its delicate flowers are a pinkish-white veined with purple. Discover all of our botanical species in this selection.

These hellebores appreciate a rich and well-drained soil. They thrive in partial shade or light shade, especially in woodlands or shaded gardens. These perennials are quite resistant to summer drought once established.
