Rocket refers to two species of plants in the Brassicaceae family, formerly known as Cruciferae, cultivated in vegetable gardens for their slightly peppery-tasting leaves. They are enjoyed either alone or in mixed salads, and can add flavour to Italian dishes such as lasagna and pizza. They should be added to the dish immediately before serving to remain crisp. They can also be used to make strongly flavoured pesto. It is a plant rich in vitamin C and iron. Rocket adapts well to small spaces and readily grows on balconies or in a vegetable patch.
