PeasPisum sativum – from the Leguminosae family is an annual vegetable cultivated in the vegetable garden for its pods with Sugar Snap Peas or Mangetout, or for its seeds with Green Peas. There are dwarf varieties and climbing varieties called "climbing" that require support for their growth. In the vegetable garden, it is also one of the first vegetables to be sown in the year, as early as February. The seed can be smooth - Little Provencal Pea - or wrinkled - 'Kelvedon Wonder' ; in the latter case, it will have a sweeter taste. It also contains fibre, iron, and vitamins C and B9, and is reputed to have antioxidant properties.
