Some bushes or trees will only thrive in loose, rich and humus-rich soils, containing harmonious proportions of clay and silt. These are often plants that grow in privileged environments such as undergrowth, where the leaves that accumulate each year create a very favourable litter layer for vegetation but also for the soil microfauna (for example, Cornus kousa, the azaleas or Aralia) and in certain regions subject to mild and oceanic humidity (such as Araucaria in Chile). Under these conditions, they experience few drought episodes, but for the most part, they also do not appreciate having their roots in moisture, especially in winter.
