Several varieties of hydrangeas have beautiful black stems, which create a strong contrast with the flowers, as in the case of 'Zorro' hydrangeas or 'Choco Chic' hydrangeas for example. For blue varieties, the effect is more interesting in acidic soil, which provides a strong colouring. The overall look remains striking even after the inflorescences have faded, in the heart of winter, especially if it snows. This adds to the appeal of these well-known bushes.
