The Dill, False fennel, false anise or Herb fennel is an annual herbaceous plant cultivated in the herb garden or vegetable patch for the aniseed fragrance of its leaves and seeds. Easier to grow than fennel, to which it bears a resemblance, it imparts its aroma to fish dishes with its leaves and to pickles with its seeds. Dill can be sown directly in the ground or in a pot in spring and harvested throughout the summer. Resistant to drought, it requires little care: light but regular watering prevents premature seed production. Dill is known for its digestive properties.
