Eggplant seeds

Eggplant - Solanum melongena - is a summer vegetable-fruit whose seeds are sown in warm conditions from February in pots at the same time as those of tomatoes, peppers or chillies. It is harvested about five months after being transplanted into open ground. Often deep purple, which has given its name to a colour, it can also be white, variegated, pink, green or black like the 'Black Beauty' Eggplant and can have various ovoid or elongated shapes like the 'Barbentane' Eggplant or round shapes. Easy to grow, this plant with a bushy habit requires heat and brightness. It needs plenty of water to produce its beautiful fleshy fruits.
