Our Didiscus or trachymene seeds. Didiscus caeruleus is an annual plant with summer flowering. Its slender stems bear delicate umbels with a subtle fragrance, perfect for adding a touch of poetry and freshness to the garden and in cut flower arrangements. It is best sown after the frosts, directly in situ.
The Didiscus caeruleus Lace Blue offers small, very graphic sky-blue umbels for borders or in the middle of a sunny flower bed. 'Lace Pink' presents these "lace flowers" in soft pink tones for romantic scenes, while 'Lace White', with pure white umbels, creates small spots of light among perennials and grasses. Similar to Ammi visnaga 'Green Mist White', the Ornamental Carrot 'Dara' and other umbellifers, trachymenes are highly valued as cut flowers.
Trachymenes love full sun, a cool, humus-bearing and well-drained soil, without excess moisture. Sow them under cover in spring, then transplant in situ after the last frosts, spacing the young plants so they become well ramified. Remove spent flowers to prolong flowering and keep a few umbels for seed setting.
