Our range of groundcover Ivies. To carpet shaded areas, stabilise slopes and limit weeds with year-round evergreen foliage. Ivy (Hedera) forms a dense carpet thanks to its creeping stems; some varieties have a naturally low, spreading habit, well-suited for groundcover.
Well-known for its creeping propensity, Hedera algeriensis ‘Gloire de Marengo’ forms a carpet of large, variegated green, grey and cream leaves; it performs better in mild climates and is drought-resistant. A vigorous selection 50 cm tall, Algerian Bellecour® quickly covers large areas, in non-scorching sun or shade, in deep, moist soil. The hardier Common Ivy ‘Green Ripple’ has crinkled, dense and well-covering foliage; it is perfect on slopes and under trees. With a distinctly prostrate habit, the cultivar ‘Spetchley’ snakes along the ground, between paving slabs or in a container; ‘Shamrock’ forms a compact carpet of small trilobed leaves, very bright in partial shade.

Ivies carpet the soil even in shade, tolerating pollution and drought once established. Their late flowering feeds pollinators; their vigour requires maintenance pruning, and they must be kept away from vertical supports if you wish them to remain creeping.
Growing tips: water regularly in the first year. Prune in late winter to contain their spread and densify the carpet.
