A selection of Asters for riverbanks and wetlands with a cool climate. It includes numerous varieties of New England Asters (Aster or Symphyotrichum novae-angliae), including the famous 'Violetta', 'Barrs Blue', 'Andenken an Alma Pötschke', 'Purple Dome'... These large, perennial plants are resistant to powdery mildew and bloom in autumn. They thrive in clayey and wet soils. Virginia Aster (Symphyotrichum novi-belgii) or Michaelmas daisy, along with its multiple cultivars ('Eventide', 'Fellowship', 'Porzellan'...) naturally grow by watercourses and in damp meadows where they easily spread thanks to their rhizomes. In these conditions, they can compete with other plants on riverbanks. They are slightly less exuberant and easier to control in simply moist soils, and have produced numerous cultivars that are perfect for the back of flower beds. Their autumn flowering comes in white, blue, pink, and mauve. Several rare botanical species that thrive in wet soils, such as Symphyotrichum prenanthoides, can also be found. Discover all our Asters suitable for wet areas in the garden.
