Filipendulas, often called Meadowsweets, are robust and hardy perennial plants that are easy to grow, growing in damp places but also accepting any good garden soil as long as it is not too dry in summer. Ideal plants for lining the edges of a pond or the back of partially shaded beds in heavy soil, such as Filipendula camtschatica or F. rubra 'Venusta' forming large structured bushes, reaching up to 2m (7ft). Others will fill more modestly but with as many flowers, the edges of a fresh bed, like the varieties F. palmata 'Nana' and F. vulgaris 'Kahome'.
