Our range of blue, mauve or violet columbines. The Columbine or Granny's bonnet, Aquilegia vulgaris in Latin, is a robust perennial whose delicate flowers, single or double depending on the varieties, come in many shades ranging from pale blue to violet. The 'Blue Barlow' Columbine produces flowers that resemble purple pompoms from May to July, very pretty in country bouquets. While the dwarf Columbine Aquilegia flabellata 'Ministar', is compact and has light blue flowers with a luminescent white centre on a cushion of dissected leaves. Also discover the Alpine Columbine, with a vibrant blue colour and tall stems, that blooms in spring in rockeries. Or recent hybrids such as 'Powder Blue', in sky blue pompoms sprinkled with white. Generous, Columbines flower for a long time and sometimes self-seed in the flowerbeds if the flower stalks are not cut. It occasionally produces natural hybrids with unique shapes or colours.
