Description

Fuchsia Shadow Dancer Amelie is characterised by its spectacular trailing double flowers measuring 7cm (3in).

It blooms continuously from May to October, in shades of white, pink, and violet.

Usually grown as an annual, it is a perennial that can be cultivated indoors.

Discovered in Saint-Domingue in the 17th century and acclimatised in Europe, it was named "Fuchsia" (not "Fuschia") in honour of a German botanist named Fuchs. Native to South America, botanical fuchsias have been gradually multiplied. There are now believed to be tens of thousands of hybrids!

These are green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in plug plant cases of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8cm (1in) in diameter, 4cm (2in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors, once the risk of frost has definitely passed.

Planting and care

Plant in rich, moist, well-drained substrate, in the sun or partial shade. Fuchsias need plenty of light to flower well, but they are sensitive to full summer sun. Water regularly, as they are sensitive to drought. However, do not water excessively. When grown in pots, do not leave water in the saucer, as this would cause the roots to rot and the leaves to fall. Feed with a liquid fertiliser for fuchsias every 15 days during the growth period. Regularly remove faded flowers and dry leaves. Prune back in autumn after flowering. Fuchsias can also be grown indoors, where they are perennial and evergreen.
