Description

This Sustainable Meadow is a beautiful assortment of low-growing flowers intended to create flowering meadow that lasts for two or three years. Easy to grow in ordinary soil and requiring very little maintenance, they can be sown directly in place, preferably at the end of summer or in early spring, in well-prepared soil. Very floriferous in the first year, the meadow will flower from spring until the end of summer in the second year, providing colour to the garden as well as a refuge for biodiversity. Some plants will self-seed wherever they please.

This selection consists of 29 species of perennial and annual plants. The annuals flower 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, while the perennials, which live for several years, will flower from the second spring onwards. All these plants show rather rapid growth and are easily cultivated in ordinary soil. One box of seeds can cover up to 100 square metres. The height of the plants does not exceed 50cm (20in).

At the end of flowering, mow and remove the plants to prepare the soil. Sow again the following year.

Partial composition: Linum perenne, Achillea millefolium, Centaurea cyanus, Viola cornuta, etc.

It has become very popular to plant a flower meadow. This beautiful alternative to a lawn combines usefulness with pleasure, flowering throughout the summer while requiring very little maintenance. Occasional watering will suffice if the weather is very dry. Ideal for bringing colour and life to a slightly wild and sunny area of the garden, this meadow will also attract bees and beneficial insects that help control pests. Invite nature into your garden: sow our flower mixtures near the orchard or vegetable garden, on a large slope, or at the back of a garden bordering the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing: from September-October or from March to early June

Turn over the soil. Depending on the area, you can use a rototiller or agricultural equipment.  • Refine, rake, level, remove stones and weeds.  • Mix the content of the packet with an equal volume of dry sand to achieve a better distribution of the seeds.  • Sow by broadcasting on the surface, like sowing a lawn.  • Roll or compact the soil to bring the seeds into contact with the ground.  • Water and keep moist until germination.

Sow approximately 5g per m²

Examples:

• 50 m2: weigh out 250 grams
• 100 m2: use the entire box

At the end of flowering, mow and remove the plants to prepare the soil. Sow again the following year.
