Description

This organic annual flower mix brings together 12 species of annual plants whose seeds provide food to birds such as chickadees, sparrows, warblers, finches, and goldfinch. These blooms will deliver a varied food source from summer to winter, if the seeded area is not mowed. Flaxseed blooms first, followed by millet and sunflowers. Broadcast the seeds in spring. Choose a sunny location. These flowers like worked and loosened soil. This glorious mix will bring colour and life to your garden.

The 12 species of annuals that make up this mix bloom 6 to 10 weeks after sowing. They are low-maintenance. These plants can adapt to a wide range of soils if they are not too clayey, too acidic, or too arid. They reach between 60cm (24in) and 1m (3ft) in height. They bloom from June to October, with seed availability running from September to January. Some will spontaneously reseed wherever they please. Do not mow your fallow land at the end of flowering to allow the birds to feed on the seeds. Indeed, in autumn, the seeds become a prime food source for birds, so you can observe our magnificent garden companions!

The mix includes: safflower, Knapweed 'Blue Boy', poppy, Cosmos 'Sensation', harvest chrysanthemum, annual flax, simple marigold, tithonia, and sunflower.

Meadow flowers bloom throughout the summer season. This kind of sowing restores ecological balance. These flowers require very little maintenance, just water a little from time to time (especially during periods of prolonged drought). Invite nature into your garden: sow this seed mix in a somewhat neglected area of the garden, near an orchard, on a large embankment, or at the bottom of the garden.

Planting and care

Sow from March to early June.

Turn over the soil. Refine, rake, and level the ground, and remove pebbles and weeds. Mix the contents of the packet with an equivalent volume of dry sand to obtain a better distribution of the seeds. Broadcast on the surface. Roll or pack the soil to bring the seeds into contact with the soil. Water and keep moist until emergence.

Sow 2 to 5g per m².

Once the plants are well established, you will only need to water in case of prolonged drought. Leave the flowers when they have finished flowering so the birds have a source of food.
