Guzmania 'Limones' is a bromeliad that will bring a touch of tropical flamboyance into your home. Its red and yellow flower spike rises from a beautiful cluster of green leaves with a purplish base. This exotic and colourful variety enhances contemporary, bohemian, or tropical decor. It requires bright light, away from direct sunlight, and good ambient humidity.

Guzmania 'Limones' is a tropical perennial plant, belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. It is a cousin of Aechmea and Vriesea. This variety is characterised by its soft rosette habit, composed of long, linear, arching, pointed leaves. These leaves, arranged in a spiral, typically measure between 40 and 50 cm in length and 2 to 3 cm in width. They are smooth and bright green, tinged with purple at the base. The mature plant reaches a total height of 50 to 70 cm, including flowers, and has a diameter of about 40 cm when fully developed. This variety of Guzmania is semelparous, meaning the rosette dies after producing its spectacular inflorescence, but it can form offsets (growing at the base) that allow the plant to regenerate. At the heart of the rosette, a bicoloured inflorescence develops. The red bracts are modified leaves that surround small yellow tubular flowers grouped into balls. Flowering occurs after 12 to 16 months of cultivation and lasts between 12 and 14 weeks.
The Guzmania genus includes around 120 species of epiphytic plants native to the humid tropical forests of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. These plants thrive in the forest canopy, where they capture moisture from the air and collect rainwater in the heart of their rosette. The genus name honours the Spanish naturalist Anastasio Guzmán, who studied South American biodiversity in the 18th century.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repotting the Guzmania 'Limones' is rarely necessary due to its underdeveloped root system. It is typically done in spring, only when separating the offsets from the mother plant. A pot with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm is sufficient.

Use a mix of orchid compost and turf, with clay pebbles at the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage.

Feed the young plant with a diluted liquid fertiliser for houseplants once a month during the growth period (spring and summer).
