No need to remove the faded ones, beautiful neck veined with purple-lilac color as its name does not indicate. Less sturdy against diseases and aphids than its brother Bubblegum.

Description

The Petunia Supertunia Bordeaux, originating from South America, is remarkable for its stunning dark veined purple colour (an unusual colour for petunias). It forms a true cascade of large single flowers from June to October. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, grown as an annual in our climate. It is a hybrid, creeping plant.

This Surfinia Petunia is very floriferous and very interesting in hanging baskets with its long densely fuzzy stems. It measures between 15 and 30cm (11.8 in) in height. The flowers are 5 to 6 cm (2 - 2.4 in) in diameter. They consist of five petals arranged in a circular pattern with a single flower per peduncle.

Resistant to drought and heat, they appreciate sunny positions. The Supertunia Petunia experiences rapid and vigorous growth.

Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (1.6 - 3.1 in) in small 5-pack trays with a 2.5cm (0.8 in) diameter and 4cm (1.6 in) height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Attention, our young plants in mini-trays are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your Supertunia Bordeaux petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (Surfinia petunias can tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. The petunias will flower from June to October. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-bearing soil, but above all, well-drained. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer periods. Supertunia petunias are sensitive to frost (minimum -1°C). Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertilizer for Surfinia petunias once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and extend the flowering period.
