I have just received and planted them. The plants received were in perfect condition, well protected. I will give a review when they are in bloom. I love these plants, which is why I bought them. I am familiar with this website and have never been disappointed.

Description

Verbena Superbena Royale Red is a new hybrid that is perfectly suited for balcony and hanging basket arrangements. This vigorous annual has a beautiful habit that is rounded, compact, and slightly trailing. It is also suitable for borders and rockeries, where it flowers generously and earlier than other verbenas. It blooms until the first frost. It bears gloriously deep red colour flower umbels that look stunning under the summer sun. This lovely verbena tolerates heat and is water-efficient. It will make the most wonderful summer display.

Verbena Superbena Royale Red belongs to the Verbenaceae family. It is a recent horticultural hybrid whose ancestors inhabited the warm regions of South America. It tirelessly produces upright, gracefully trailing stems from early summer until the first frost, which lengthen as dense clusters of tiny orange flowers bloom. The flowers somewhat resemble phlox. This perennial plant succumbs to frost so is grown as an annual in our climate.

Verbena Superbena Royale quickly develops numerous branching stems that form a compact yet slightly upright tuft, barely trailing. It reaches 25cm (10in) in height with a spread of 40 to 50cm (16 to 20in). These stems are covered in dark green, rough, and hairy leaves, 2cm (1in) long. The highly pronounced veins and heavily toothed margins give the leaves a puckered appearance. From the beginning of summer, multiple tiny flowers appear, grouped in umbels, forming lovely colourful bouquets that last a long time and will continue blooming until the first frost. They display a rich and pure dark red colour. The faded flowers eliminate themselves, helping the plant to maintain a neat appearance throughout the season.

Verbena Superbena Royale boasts a solid and long-lasting flowering display. This plant is perfect for adorning the surroundings of the house, window ledges, the front of borders, and all hanging baskets. It only requires occasional deadheading to remove faded flowers, and won't mind if you forget to water it from time to time. Paired with diascias, nemesias, and osteospermums, it creates ensembles with varying volumes and habits. Place it near dark blue or white verbenas and salvias for a wonderful colour contrast.

Our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in shelters (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Plant in a sunny location. They need light and humus-rich soil and appreciate a moderate supply of fertiliser and water. They tolerate rather dry soil quite well. You can plant your verbenas in pots, hanging baskets, or flower boxes. In pots, they should be regularly watered, without excess, letting the surface dry between two waterings.

They are fragile perennials that are usually grown as annuals. You can bring them indoors at the first sign of frost to extend their flowering period during autumn and winter. Outdoor cultivation is possible by the seaside, by mulching well in winter and protecting the stump from moisture with plastic.

Plan for light pruning in March.
