The bulbs I received seem healthy, planted along the edge of a rockery. Now I patiently await their growth...or not?

Description

The 'Mascotte' Fringed Tulip has brilliantly coloured, semi-double flowers in April-May. Its beautiful flower is gracefully fringed on the edge, with a satin finish and is captivating with its rich bright pink to raspberry colour enriched with purple highlights. In a flowerbed, as a border or in a bouquet, it will beautifully announce spring.

The 'Mascotte' Double fringed tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 2004, it is currently classified in the 'fringed' group, whose main characteristic is to have finely toothed petal tips. This tulip will reach 40cm (16in) high when in bloom in April-May, a little later than other tulips. The flowers are semi-double to double, with a slightly open cup shape, bright pink to raspberry with highlights of mauve and purple, depending on the lighting. The fringed edges of this magnificent tulip evoke frosted crystals. The flowers last a long time and allow the tulip season to be extended until May.

In the world of flowers, there is truly nothing quite like fringed tulips to spice up the spring garden, especially since their flowers show excellent durability, even in hot weather. Ideal in a flowerbed or as a border, 'Mascotte' Double Tulip pairs well with other varieties in soft pink or mauve tones, such as 'Belle Epoque', 'Britt', or even soft yellow flowers. It will also create beautiful spots in perennial flowerbeds, with late white daffodils and biennial plants that will fill the space after flowering. You can choose forget-me-nots, dame's rocket or wallflowers for this purpose or dark foliage such as Obsidian heuchera. Fringed tulip will add a unique touch to your bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), 10 cm (4in) apart in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-draining soil. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil, as it could cause the bulbs to rot. The 'Mascotte' tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil, in a sunny or partially shaded location. After flowering, it is best to remove the seed heads to avoid exhausting the plant. Allow the leaves to dry completely before cutting them.
