Description

This Allium & Iris Collection from Holland combines the bright and elegant flowering of White Excelsior Dutch irises, pure white with a small golden yellow signal, with the huge pink-violet pompom-like floral heads of the ornamental garlic Globemaster. Plant your bulbs in a sunny flower bed or in a large pot on the terrace. Flowering in May-June.

This collection is composed of:

- 15x Iris hollandica 'White Excelsior': this 55cm (22in) tall Dutch iris offers a flower of pure white, highlighted by a small golden yellow spot on the sepals.

- 3x Allium Globemaster: this famous variety reaches a height of 80-90cm (32-35in) and offers large, perfectly round flowers in a deep mauve-pink colour, measuring up to 15cm (6in) in diameter. It multiplies over the years in well-drained soil and full sun.

Labeled separately

Less known and less used by gardeners than German irises, Dutch irises are nevertheless easy to grow in fertile and light soil, with undeniable elegance, but also indifferent to wild grasses that struggle to infiltrate their very vertical clumps. They come back year after year to offer you more and more elegant and joyful flowers, which go particularly well with ornamental garlic. Pick their flowers to make bouquets, add roses, arums or lilies or even late tulips. All irises and ornamental garlics need a sunny exposure to flower well. Give them at least half a day of full sun per day.

Planting and care

Plant your bulbs as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply, add compost and gravel if necessary in heavy soils. Plant at a depth of 10cm (4in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch each other. Choose a very sunny exposure for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stalks and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them back.
