Description
We offer you this very fashionable collection which brings together 5 annual plants in magenta shades (elected colour of the year 2023) for the patio or balcony, . Richly coloured in magenta, purple and dark red tones, the flowering and foliage of petunias, gaura, bacopa and South African daisies create a colourful and very flowery scene between May-June and October. This collection is sold in a set of 5 plug plants, one of each variety, namely:
1 x Petunia Lightning Sky: an unusual variety, similar to Night Sky with starry flowers, but in a purple-red colour on a cream yellow background. The vigorous trailing plant can exceed 1 m (3ft) in diameter, and its flowering is early and prolonged.
1 x Pétunia Cascadias Rim Magenta: this trailing variety produces true cascades of bicoloured flowers, finely edged with white.
1 x Gaura Lollipop Pink: forming a small, compact and branched clump of 40 cm (16in), this very floriferous variety has red stems, dark foliage shaded with purple and dark pink flowers.
1 x Bacopa 'Gulliver Pink Heart Improved': a variety of Sutera cordata whose flowers are larger and pale pink marked with a beautiful purple eye. When in bloom, this Bacopa resembles a ball of flowers.
1 x Angelonia angustifolia 'Archangel Cherry Red': A new heat-resistant selection of Angelonia with particularly large flowers in a beautiful cherry red colour.
This 'Viva Magenta' collection of annuals allows you to easily create a beautiful summer decoration for your patio or balcony. They are perfect in hanging baskets, flower pots or containers, but their heat tolerance also allows them to be used in open ground, where they form beautiful flower beds. They can be planted alone or mixed with 2 or 3 varieties of white verbenas in the same tones, with blue lobelias or Ageratums, for example. Plant these flowers in tubs, flower pots, hanging baskets on the terrace, balcony or patio. Their combination with purple-leaved Ipomoea Sweet Caroline Purple is also remarkable. The choice is vast and allows for imagination and the tastes of every gardener, even inexperienced ones.
Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14 °C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively gone.

Planting and care
You can plant your annuals in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, in soil enriched with compost, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. They will flower from May-June to October. Plant them in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-rich soil, but above all, well-draining, and they are sensitive to waterlogging. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season, as they are sometimes sensitive to excess moisture. These plants are quite water-efficient, but they will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for geraniums or a fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growing season. Although not obligatory, you can remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and extend the flowering period.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
