Ornithogales or Starflowers, are adorable plants that develop linear, arched, green leaves with a silver-gray longitudinal stripe. The flowers are borne in umbels or clusters on a rigid stem. In autumn, Starflowers are planted in a light, sandy, well-drained soil in a sunny location. The buds do not open in shade. Native to the Middle East, hardy Ornithogales naturalize easily and can be used in rock gardens, slopes, borders, containers, and for bouquet arrangements. Also known as Wood Asparagus, Ornithogale pyrenaicum or Pyrenean Ornithogale is an edible variety.
