Rosa Reine des Parfums

Rosa Reine des Parfums is one of the best red-flowered varieties, mainly because of its astonishing fragrance. It has been awarded in Italy and Spain, and endorsed by the French Perfumers Society. Its beautiful double and turbinated roses are a dark velvety red colour that quickly turns dark pink, releasing a sweet fragrance. They bloom from early summer to autumn on a compact bush covered in disease-resistant foliage. Visible from afar in the garden, its roses are perfect for bouquets.

Rosa Reine des Parfums was born in the Orard rose gardens, a family business located in Feyzin, near Lyon. Among its achievements are the Perfume Prize in Monza in 2013 and the Perfume Prize in Barcelona the same year. It belongs to modern hybrid tea roses. This repeat-flowering rose blooms in successive waves from June to October. The plant forms a small bushy and dense shrub, with vigorous and fast growth. It will reach about 80cm (32in) in height and 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in) in width. The large, double flowers are globular and turbinated, composed of multiple imbricated petals in a spiral. Their fragrance is particularly pronounced, especially in hot weather. The dark green foliage resists diseases well. It perfectly enhances the colour of the roses. The deciduous foliage falls in autumn and regrows in spring.

Rosa Reine des Parfums deserves a prominent place in the garden. It can be planted in a large rose bed, in groups of 3 to 5 plants, or as a standalone in a well-maintained garden. It adapts to all climates and all soils that are not too dry. It pairs perfectly with purple, pink, mauve, or white roses, as well as with beautiful and easy-to-grow plants such as perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', G. 'Anne Folkard', G. 'Nimbus', G. 'Orion'), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, love-in-a-mist, foxgloves, and phlox. Its flowers can be used to create elegant bouquets that will delicately perfume the house.
