Description

Myosotis scorpioides, also known as marsh forget-me-not or water forget-me-not, grows in wet and marshy soils. It bears the same delightful intense blue flower as its forest cousin, but it is a perennial, semi-evergreen species for pond banks, in moist or shallowly submerged soil to 10 cm (4in) deep. It is Hardy to -25°C (-13°F). It blooms between May and July and thrives in fertile soil, in sun or partial shade.

Myosotis scorpioides is a plant of the Boraginaceae family native to the wet meadows of Western Europe and some temperate regions of Central Europe and North America. It forms small hairy rosettes of pale green leaves on a rhizome with branched hairy stems, 20 to 40 cm (8 to 16in) in height from April to June, bearing curved inflorescences that lengthen as the flowers bloom. They are composed of 5 to 8 mm (0in) wide, extremely vivid pure blue flowers with a small yellow or white heart. It will self-seed the same as the wood forget-me-not.

Myosotis scorpioides or marsh forget-me-not finds its place in a lawn, on pond banks with Caltha palustris or shallowly submerged in a pond. Plant it en mass to enjoy a unique blue flower carpet.
