Description

This wildflower mix brings together fast-growing annual meadow plants that are particularly resilient in difficult terrains and poor areas of the garden. Their summer flowering attracts beneficial insects to the garden while adding freshness and cheerfulness to flower beds, or along paths and alleys. Sow directly in spring, in a well-worked and loosened soil, in full sun.

This selection consists of white campion (Silene latifolia), corn chamomile (Anthemis arvensis), corn cockle (Agrostemma githago), cornflower (centaurea cyanus), corn marigold (Chrysanthemum segetum), camomile (Matricaria recutita), and corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas), wild pansies (Viola tricolor). All these plants, annuals or perennials, show rapid growth and easily naturalise through spontaneous sowings in ordinary, well-drained soil. One packet of seeds covers approximately 1m2.  The plants range in size from 15 to 60 cm (6 to 24in).

Ideal for adding a touch of colour to a difficult area, or recreating a small wildflower area alongside grasses, these meadow plants are also valuable for pollinators and pest predators. Sow them along an alley, or on the slope bordering a sunken path, or in the back of the garden at the border with the countryside. These flowers can also be used to create bouquets with a rustic charm.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in situ, from March to early June, once the soil has warmed up, in well-prepared soil, free from weeds and raked. Sow finely on the surface of the soil and lightly rake to cover the seeds. Alternatively, sow at a depth of 1.5 mm (0in) in furrows spaced 30 cm (12in) apart. Germination usually takes 14 to 21 days.

Cultivation:
When the young plants appear, water well and remove weeds. In autumn, at the end of flowering and after collecting seeds, they can be sowed in place, after cleaning the area. Water well to ensure the seeds adhere to the soil.
