Our range of Lemon Thymes. Their leader is the Lemon Thyme (Thymus x citriodorus), whose small leaves release a pleasant lemony scent. It is available as an organic young plant and comes in several varieties, all prized for their lemony aroma. The Golden Lemon Thyme Thymus citriodorus ‘Aureus’ stands out for its golden-yellow evergreen foliage, very visible in borders, rockeries or between paving stones, and its small melliferous rose-mauve flowers in summer. The cultivar ‘Lammefjord’ adopts a creeping habit, covering the soil with a tight carpet, its glossy foliage taking on a purple hue in winter. Thymus x citriodorus ‘Bertram Anderson’ offers a dense, carpeting habit and evergreen foliage that is green and broadly variegated with yellow, very decorative in borders or pots; other variegated lemon thymes like ‘Silver Queen’ complete the collection, with green foliage edged in cream and mauve-pink flowering for borders in full sun.
All these lemon thymes appreciate full sun and poor, light, stony or sandy, well-drained soils; they tolerate drought and dislike waterlogged conditions. Plant your thyme in spring or early autumn, burying the root ball level with the soil. Water regularly for the first few weeks and then space out the watering. Prune the cushions lightly after flowering to keep the clumps dense.
