Our range of Common Thymes. They originate from Thymus vulgaris, or common culinary thyme, a typical aromatic perennial of Mediterranean gardens. This small undershrub with evergreen, highly fragrant foliage is used in Herbes de Provence and bouquet garni. It is planted in the vegetable garden or in dry borders, rockeries and edging in full sun.

Thymus vulgaris ‘Compactus’ retains the qualities of common thyme in a low, dense form, suitable for neat edging, pots and planters. With ‘Silver Posie’, thyme offers finely variegated foliage, decorative all year round and bright when combined with lavenders or lavender cottons. The 'De Provence' selection is distinguished by its hardiness and its tight foliage rich in essential oils, sought after for cooking. Also discover the Orange Thyme (Thymus vulgaris 'Fragrantissimus'), an original variety whose leaves release a fragrance with citrus trees notes.

Common thymes require full sun, very well-drained soil, rather poor, stony or sandy, and fear stagnant moisture which can rot the stumps. Water moderately in the first year, then only in case of prolonged drought, allowing the soil to dry out between water applications. Prune lightly after flowering or at the end of winter to maintain compact clumps and limit bare wood in the centre.
