Description

Lovely perennial plants, whose foliage is of great decorative interest.

Rounded and dense clump. Thick stump with short rhizomes from which rounded leaves, 10 cm (4in) wide, are borne on a long petiole attached at their center, like a small Darmera peltata. They are thick, slightly lobed, glossy, in a pretty olive green. The upright stems bear at their top a cluster of very delicate white flowers, as can sometimes be the case with flowers from the saxifrage family.

Planting and care

In our garden, we use them mainly with Asian primroses in moist, lime-free clay soil and with Epimedium in cool undergrowth in acidic, humus-rich soil. They are beautiful, perfectly hardy and never get sick - in fact, their only fault is that they lose their foliage in winter.
