Perennial delivered in spring 2019 with a very fragile appearance in naked roots and yet it has established itself very well after one year. At my place, it is in full sun and benefits from drip irrigation during dry periods. Very floriferous and very vigorous. Unfortunately, it is not at all like in the photo. The spreading tepals do not give these flowers a round appearance. The petals are narrow and thin unlike the online photo. A dwarf plant and easy to highly recommend.

Description

The Daylily or Hemerocallis 'Everydaylily Red Ribs' is part of a series of daylilies recently selected in the United States for their exceptional floribundity and compact habit. They bloom continuously from late spring until the first frost, producing up to 400 flowers in a mature season. In this variety of 'Red Ribs', the flowers are richly coloured, displaying a dark purple-red tone, more or less variegated with yellow, around a golden throat. This perennial, so easy to grow and generous, will undoubtedly find its place in the garden or patio. Planted en masse, alone or combined with other miniature daylilies, it creates beautiful borders!

According to classifications, the genus Hemerocallis belongs to the family Liliaceae or Hemerocallidaceae. They are perennial and hardy plants with deciduous foliage in winter or sometimes semi-evergreen. Like all its sisters in the Everydaylily series, the variety Red Ribs' is derived from the excellent border daylily 'Stella de Oro'. It grows quickly, forming a reasonably dense clump reaching approximately 35-40 cm (14-16in) in height, with a relative spread of 50 cm: daylilies tend to spread a bit when they like the soil. The flowers measure 7-8 cm (3in) in diameter. The petals are thick and slightly crinkled, recurved, and undulated somewhat at the edges. Each flower lasts only a day, but the flowering renews continuously over a long period between June and October. Each petal, crossed by a yellow midline, is more or less bordered or maculated with yellow on a dark red background. The foliage is linear and deciduous, disappearing in winter. Daylilies are plants with short rhizomes and fleshy roots that tolerate dry soils but are more opulent and floriferous in fresh and fertile soil.

Very easy to grow, daylilies thrive equally well in shade or sun. Some can be invasive, so don't hesitate to divide clumps every four or five years, preferably in autumn, after flowering. Daylilies are often called "the perfect perennial plant" because of their vibrant colours, ability to tolerate any environment, and beautiful exuberance, which blends well with other perennials. Plant them in generous clumps in your borders and flower beds. All summer bulb flowers can be planted alongside daylilies. 'Everydaylily Red Ribs' pairs well with bellflowers, catmints, penstemons, asters, chamomiles, or panicled phlox. On a balcony or patio, it will be stunning for months. The flowers are edible: they brighten up salads and decorate desserts.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Everydaylily' Hemerocallis in well-draining garden soil that is not too clayey and enriched with humus and compost. This will allow your perennial to withstand summer droughts and winter frosts. This variety is easy to grow and not susceptible to pests or diseases, so no treatment is required, and rodents are not attracted to it. Daylilies can grow in partial shade and full sun, with 4 to 5 hours of daily sunlight sufficient—plant by burying the base 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) below the surface. If planting multiple plants, ensure enough space between them, as the spaces will quickly fill up. For a few weeks after planting, ensure the soil is moderately moist, but do not overwater. It is advisable to divide the plants, preferably in autumn after flowering.
