Very beautiful young plant that disappeared in winter. Did it freeze? Mystery and disappointment! Reply from Promesse de Fleurs: The Echinacea Pacific Summer is a hardy plant up to minus 15 degrees (59°F). Echinaceas are preferably planted in spring, avoiding water shortage.

Description

Echinacea purpurea 'Pacific Summer' is a new variety of purple coneflower with bright pastel orange flowers, known for its medicinal properties against colds.

Originally from the United States, this hardy perennial forms a dense clump, with deciduous, lanceolate, green, opposite leaves that are bristly with rough hairs. The reddish, branched stems are topped with a solitary 8cm (3in) diameter head, with a bristly, orange-brown globose disc and bright pastel orange trailing ligules.

'Pacific Summer' purple coneflower thrives in fertile, deep, loose, moist, and well-drained soil in a sunny location. Mulch the base in May to retain moisture in summer, as it is sensitive to drought. Excellent for cutting or drying.

'Pacific Summer' purple coneflower is used in mixed borders with other varieties or alongside lupins, Amaranths, and Astilbes.

Properties: In homeopathy, it is used for treating colds and strengthening the immune system.
